Sri meenakshi temple puthumandapam




The puthumandapam (new pavilion).East of the swami tower,was built by Thirumalai Naicker.It is used for the spring festival.He also constructed the Royagopuram east of the Puthumandapam.

The kilikoottu (cage of parrots) Mandapam wa built by Abisheka pandaram Thirumalai Naicker's wives.Tholi Ammai and Rudrapathi Ammai built the Asta sakthi (eight powers) Mandapam.The Nagara Mandapam (drum pavilion) in front of the Meenakshi amman tower was built by Achaya Rayar.Here we can now see fruit stalls and other shops.

The Meenakshi Naicker Mandapam before the Amman tower wa constructed in 1708A.D. by Shanmugam Meenakshi Naicker.Vijaya Ranga Chokkanatha Naicker built the Thirukalyana Mandapam in1711 A.D.


Thus we see that major part of the Temple was constructed between the twelth and eighteenth centuries.
